This hands-on and interactive workshop is presented with live demos to help you learn to prevent and diagnose common problems, conduct basic repairs on your own (or know when to call in a professional), and feel more at ease when facing emergency and permanent repairs.
All ages 18+, all genders are welcome. No experience is needed.
This workshop is hosted and taught by Erin Helland of HardHat Diplomat. Erin is a board certified national home inspector and commercial and residential RENOVATION COACH. Erin has rehabbed multiple properties, created long-term and vacation rentals, and coached property owners through remodeling projects across the United States from simple room makeovers to multi-million dollar endeavors. She loves to share her organizational tools and experience to help others – especially women – become their own project managers and feel confident in making informed and cost-effective decisions when buying and renovating a home.
Workshop sponsor Alison Scimeca is a homeowner, REALTOR, and founder of “the Rare DC” (Radically Authentic Real Estate), a multifaceted full service real estate lifestyle brand that helps people learn about real estate topics of all kinds, find home inspiration, get to know their city, and buy or sell their own awesome home. There is limited hourly or permitted residential (DC Zone 1) street parking within a multi-block radius. A paid lot is available within walking distance at Tivoli Square (the Giant Grocer) or DCUSA where the Target is located. We strongly encourage ride share services or public transit - there are numerable buses in this corridor & the Yellow/Green Columbia Heights Metro is just a few blocks away.
The office is located on the 2nd floor - stairs only, no elevator. The entry for "District Bridges" is on the 11th street side. (This is a shared building at the corner of Park and 11th NW; the door is to the left of Queen's English restaurant and to the right of Makan restaurant.)
There will be a 1 hour break for lunch. Bring a brown bag to stay and hang out, or get outside and stretch your legs. There are plenty of establishments nearby, including the Coupe cafe, Giant Grocery, Odd Provisions and more.
